Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed, non-removable, appliance used to replace missing teeth. Crowns are placed on either side of a missing space and a replacement tooth is bridged to those crowns.

Bridges used to be a the best alternative to a replace a missing tooth. In the age of implants, bridges are used less frequently because the teeth on either side to not need to be prepared, thus saving them from crownwork.

In some situations, a bridge may still be the best option:

  • Existing bridge replacement
  • Implant supported bridge
  • Lack of adequate bone or space for implant placement
  • A patient’s health history will not allow implants

Like crowns, bridges can be made from a variety of materials including porcelain, gold and resin.
