Night Guards

Nightguards are often recommended when a patient shows signs of wear, clenching or grinding on his/her teeth. Dentists commonly call this occlusal disease. Sometimes, a patient may also have joint or muscle pain. Patients who clench or grind their teeth, may be doing so in their sleep.

Signs or symptoms of occlusal disease:

  • Tooth wear
  • Cracks or fractures in teeth
  • Jaw or neck muscle pain
  • TMJ pain
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Shortened teeth
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Gum recession

A thorough TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) evaluation is usually indicated to determine proper therapy. Often times, a specific type of nightguard is recommended after proper diagnosis.
